16CD + Blu-ray Box Set

With one of music’s largest catalogs, Tangerine Dream has inevitably seen its 50-year existence compartmentalized into phases; some so different from each other that civil war is known to have festered among their fanbase. Thankfully, this most ambitious attempt yet to chronicle the band straddles what all seem to agree is their classic period after the revered classic line-up of Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann signed to Virgin in 1973 for the rest of the decade.

Their seven 70s Virgin albums (including two live sets) are all here (though not MCA’s Sorcerer soundtrack). Most excitingly, they’re joined here by hours of previously-unreleased outtakes and landmark live sets unearthed during Steven Wilson’s archival excavations when charged with remixing what master tapes he could find in stereo and 5.1.
